Follow God’s Purpose, Not Opportunity

Another common distraction is following opportunity. Most people look for opportunity, but God sets our destiny. There is a significant difference between these two. Knowing this truth will help you to make the right decisions.

God guides us by supernatural leadership—not by opportunity! His leadership is contrary to man’s promotion. When someone perceives or recognizes a special gift, calling, or anointing in your life and wants to bring you into the limelight, it does not necessarily mean that God is directing you. His direction must come from within you as the Holy Spirit reveals the will of God to your heart. Even if many doors open at once, and opportunities seem to overtake you, first check to be sure that these doors are in line with your God-designed purpose and His will for your life.

Bible Stories

Never forget the passage in Acts, which says about God and man,

And He…has determined their preappointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and have our being. (Acts 17:26-28)

As a Christian, you should never allow external circumstances to lead you. Do not let the “door of opportunity” or “human promotion” guide you. Instead, you can know the voice of the Lord. He is the Door. Let Him lead you. Speaking of Himself as the Door and the Good Shepherd, Jesus said,

The sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. Yet they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers…. Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep….If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. (John 10:3-5, 7, 9)

It pays to obey the Lord “from the inside out” instead of responding to opportunity, which appears “from the outside in.” Your life will be blessed when you have His witness—the absolute assurance in your spirit that you are following the Lord’s purpose. Hear His voice and follow it, regardless of any circumstances. Don’t ask your checkbook if you can obey God’s will! Following your purpose and obeying God do not require permission from anyone or anything—including money!

Good opportunities—which may even appear to be in alignment with your purpose—will come, but you need to take only God’s divine appointments. However, the Lord revealed to me that this was not His timing for me to walk in that aspect of my purpose. These opportunities were not His divine appointments. Therefore, I turned down the contracts.

Given purpose, but an opportunity to prepare for a lifetime of living out that purpose of glorifying and serving the Creator. … Internship Opportunity

    You must be kidding.

Just because God appoints our times and places doesn’t mean that we sit around trying to discern what He’s trying to tell us, and listen to our feelings…we have a book to go by….you may have heard of it…it’s called the bible.

wow…Christian Mysticism wrapped in New Age spirituality…

We have a hard time submitting to Christ and by not completely giving it all to him we leave room for self to guide us. If we would look to the Word of God, we would know His will.
